Vibrant Communities Symposium — NEW DATES

The Vibrant Communities Symposium connects those working to create healthy sustainable communities from a social, economic, environmental and cultural perspective.

With neighborhood walkabouts, keynote speakers, panel presentations and group discussion, the Symposium is designed to encourage dialogue, within and across sectors, and discuss the challenges inherent in these guiding principles – collaboration, community involvement, informed decisions, fairness and inclusion.

Vibrant Communities Symposium 2011 will be held April 25th and 26th, 2012 at Thunderbird House in Winnipeg.

Over five hundred delegates, including community organizations, government, students and social entrepreneurs will come together to examine ways to reduce poverty and build stronger communities in Manitoba.

Community-Driven Health Impact Assessment Training

July 18 – 21, 2011 Thompson, MB

Community health impact assessment is a way to bring the health concerns of the community forward in discussions of public policy. Since our health and well-being are influenced by a wide range of factors, both within and outside the health sector, community health impact assessment is useful in examining any activity (policy, program, project or service) that will affect the community. Community health impact assessment is based on the idea that the development of healthy public policy requires broad community participation.

As a result of this training, participants will:

gain an understanding of the social, economic, environmental and cultural determinants of health
gain an understanding of the impact of programs, policy and planning on well-being
develop an understanding of the of the history, process and theory underlying the Community Health Impact Assessment process
develop skills in facilitating a process for community members to develop their own Community Health Impact Assessment tool
develop facilitation skills using the tool to assess the potential impact of an activity on the health of community members

Vibrant Communities Symposium

The Vibrant Communities Symposium connects those working to create healthy sustainable communities from a social, economic, environmental and cultural perspective.

Vibrant Communities Symposium 2011 will be held October 12th and 13th at Thunderbird House in Winnipeg.

Summer Institute in Program Evaluation

Five organizations have partnered to establish a community-university network to conduct applied evaluation research for knowledge development, exchange and utilization.

A combination of lecture, case study and group work will introduce 75 participants to the concepts of participatory evaluation focusing on the social, economic and environmental determinants of well-being.

We are currently looking for examples of programs to use as case studies during the Summer Institute. These case studies will be used to develop a program evaluation framework. For more information contact Bohdanna Kinasevych at bkinasevych@healthincommon.ca.

Non-student registration fees will be $600. Subsidies will be available.

Student registration fees will be assessed through the University and will be at standard tuition.
