Health in Common

Based on feedback and input from the Vibrant Communities Symposium, Health in Common has committed to supporting the utilization of community-driven health impact assessment in Manitoba.

As part of this commitment, we will be hosting training on conducting a Community Health Impact Assessment from Monday, August 23 to Thursday, August 26 in Winnipeg. Susan Eaton (People Assessing Their Health) will be facilitating. Registration is limited to 15 participants. Please register early and ensure you can commit to the entire training.

Summer Institute: Health of Population Evaluation (HOPE) will be held in Winnipeg from June 14 to 18

Health in Common, the Prairie HIV CBR program (Nine Circles), United Way of Winnipeg, University Without Walls (OHTN, Ontario) and University of Manitoba, are organizing a summer course on Program Evaluation. The course will be held at the Fort Garry campus of University of Manitoba (Rooms TBA).

The specific objectives of the Summer Institute are to:

1) increase the capacity of community leaders, management, staff, and university students to utilize empirical evidence for program planning and implementation and to enhance their program evaluation capabilities; and

2) establish a sustainable community-university network among practitioners and researchers for ongoing knowledge translation, knowledge exchange and utilization, and evidence-based practice.

Health in Common in Partnership with Active and Safe Routes to School, Resource Conservation Manitoba is pleased to present

Webinar: Connecting with Public Health Professionals on Bike/Ped Issues

(includes Health Impact Assessments)

This policy-oriented webinar will demonstrate the connections between an active living partnership and bicycling/walking policies and programs. Presenters will discuss a case study from Hennepin County, Minnesota, in which technical assistance provided by an umbrella group through support from Blue Cross/Blue Shield (workshops on Complete Streets and Winter Walking) helped gather diverse constituencies to catalyze pedestrian and bicycle policies and planning.

Webinar participants will learn:

How to understand and articulate the synergies between nonmotorized transportation planning and public health
How governments, businesses and community partners can connect to develop partnerships to carry out this work
How to create and successfully shepherd policies through approval by elected bodies.
Webinar presenters are Karen Nikolai, Hennepin County (Minn.), and Vayong Moua, Center for Prevention/Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Minnesota.

This association of pedestrian and bicycle professionals webinar will take place from 2 – 3pm on December 16th in the boardroom of the Manitoba Eco-Centre on the 3rd floor of 303 Portage Avenue.
